Connected fonts for laser cutting

Free Connected Fonts for Laser Cutting

Over time I have collected a number of fonts for my laser cutting projects. In this post, I want to share my favorite connected and script fonts with you.

By connected fonts I mean fonts where the letters are linked together so that after cutting a word is just one piece. They work great for things like signs, custom gifts, wedding decorations, cake toppers, etc.
There are not many completely connected free fonts available but often even starting with a partly connected font can save a lot of time and missing connections can be added by hand.

I only included fonts that are free to use for personal and commercial projects from credible sources. Most of the fonts listed here are released under the SIL Open Font License (OFL). Put simply, the OFL allows the licensed fonts to be used (e.g. to create logos or manufacture objects based on their outlines), modified, and redistributed freely as long as the fonts are not sold by themselves.

  1. Unfortunately, many of these won’t work for laser cutting. Norican, for instance. Right in the name of the font is a curl on the ‘o’. If you are cutting this out, how will that ‘island’ of material attach to anything? Certainly not for laser cutting steel.

    1. The fonts here are meant for cases where you want to use the cut-out letters as the final product. If you want to cut out the text you need to use a stencil font. In stencil fonts bridging lines will connect the inner portion of a character to the outer material.

  2. Many thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
The “Leckerli One” font is perfect for my project.
This has saved me a lot of time!

  3. Hi! Are we allowed to use the Leckerli One to laser engrave for items to sale online? I couldn’t find anything about it or where to purchase the license if it works.

    1. Leckerli One is released under the OFL license. You can use it for laser engraved items that you sell. The license file itself is included in the ZIP if you download the font. For more details on the allowed usage, you can also look at the FAQ for the OFL.
